When is Langkawi opening?

On 17 July 2021, the Ministry Of Tourism, Arts & Culture (MOTAC) announced that they're working on launching Langkawi as the first pilot destination for Malaysia's COVID-19 Free Destination Program. Set to kick off in three phases, the first phase will see the reopening of Langkawi to leisure travelers due to its secluded location, international and domestic flight networks, and small population.

As of 2 September 2021, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob confirmed that Langkawi will reopen to domestic travellers starting September 16. Other popular Malaysian islands will follow suit depending on whether the vaccination target is met.

If you're planning a quick getaway to the island, here's a list of 7 main tourism activities that have been green-lighted by MOTAC!
